
Andrew Kawahara is a principal of KASA Partners and a co-founder of K|D|A Brookwood. Andrew's experience in development, corporate and public sector real estate, architecture and urban planning spans more than 30 years. Andrew is a shareholder of The Brookwood Group.
KASA Partners is a San Francisco-based full-service real estate development and project management company focused on the development and investment of complex mixed-use, office, retail and residential properties in Northern California. KASA is currently the developer and co-general partner of an 800-unit multifamily development in South San Francisco. It is also providing project management services for UC Law San Francisco’s 28-story historic seismic upgrade and student housing project in San Francisco. It recently completed an 890,000 square foot tenant improvement multi-phase project for Salesforce’s headquarters at Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.
Previously, Andrew served as Project Director for Brookwood’s services to Salesforce for the proposed $2 Billion ground-up development headquarters at Mission Bay. He was also a development consultant with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he represented the University in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects under a lease-leaseback delivery model with private developers utilizing bond financing. Projects include the $220 Million, 237,000 square foot Neurosciences Research Building at Mission Bay and a parking garage at UCSF Mt. Zion Campus.
From 2003 to 2009 Andrew worked with Shepherd Heery at Myers Development Company in San Francisco, where he led the day-to-day development strategy and implementation for projects totaling in excess of $500 Million, including The Peninsula Mandalay ($70 Million, 112-unit 18-story residential) and Centennial Towers ($350 Million, 665,000 square feet of office in two towers).
Andrew is a licensed architect in New York and practiced architecture and urban design from 1990 to 1999 with Kohn Pedersen Fox in New York, among other firms. His domestic and international experience includes high-rise office and mixed-use towers, corporate headquarters, institutional campuses and master plans totaling more than 50 Million square feet.
Andrew holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is a member of Urban Land Institute (ULI) and currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Mark Day School in Marin County, and on the Board of Directors for the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California.
