Andrew Kawahara

Andrew Kawahara is a co-founder of K|D|A Brookwood and a principal of KASA Partners of San Francisco and Palo Alto. His experience in development, corporate and public sector real estate, architecture and urban planning spans more than 30 years. He has served as Project Director for Brookwood's services to Salesforce.

Andrew has worked with Shepherd Heery and Christina Burke since February 2003. He also has worked with Alan Katz since October of 2006. In October 2009, he co-founded KASA Partners, a San Francisco-based real estate development and investment company. KASA is a boutique firm focused on the development and investment of complex mixed-use, office, retail and residential properties in Northern California.

From 2010 to 2011 Andrew served as Project Director at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he represented the University in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects under a lease-leaseback delivery model with private developers utilizing bond financing. Projects include the $220 Million, 237,000 square foot Neurosciences Research Building at Mission Bay and a parking garage at UCSF Mt. Zion Campus.

From 2003 to 2009 Andrew was Senior Vice President and Project Director at Myers Development Company in San Francisco, where he led the day-to-day development strategy and implementation for projects totaling in excess of $500 Million, including The Peninsula Mandalay ($70 Million, 112-unit 18-story residential) and Centennial Towers ($350 Million, 665,000 square feet of office in two towers).

Prior to Myers, Andrew was Development Manager at Hauser Company, a boutique developer, where he developed adaptive re-use warehouses into multi-family housing and live-work loft condominiums in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. As Project Manager with Jones Lang LaSalle from 1999 to 2001, Andrew planned and managed major tenant improvements projects for Sun Microsystems totaling more than $300 Million.

Andrew is a licensed architect in California and New York and practiced architecture and urban design from 1990 to 1999 with Kohn Pedersen Fox (New York), Wood & Zapata (Boston) and others. His domestic and international experience includes high-rise office and mixed-use towers, corporate headquarters, institutional campuses and “new city” master plans totaling more than 50 Million square feet.

Andrew holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design (concentration in real estate) from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is a member of Urban Land Institute (ULI), The Belden Club and Marin Rowing Association.
